Johner Tasting Room
Johner Estate Vineyard and Winery is situated in the East Taratahi side of Gladstone, which has it’s own micro-climate and where grapes normally found further North, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah and Viognier all grow well alongside Pinot Noir which the Wairarapa is known for.
Johner Estate grows and picks the grapes and then produces, bottles and labels all of the wine at it’s winery including the Methode Traditionnelle sparkling wine. It is an advantage to be able to control and oversee the whole process from start to finish.
The vineyard was planted in 2001 by Karl Johner and it follows the course of the Ruamahanga River in a beautiful and idyllic setting. The riverbed which rose thousands of years ago, left behind stones which are an asset to the vineyard with it’s free draining alluvial gravel soils and it also gives mineral characteristics to the wine.
Our many grape varieties are available for tasting and with Johner Estate’s new Tasting Room/Cellar Door now in Greytown, this offers a convenient way to pay a visit while also enjoying the many delights that Greytown has to offer, all within an easy commute.
Come by and see us and try some of our award winning wines at 84 Main Street, Greytown. We are open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 11am to 4pm, or check our website for special opening hours during the Winter Festival.
